Latest ABS Demographic Statistics reveal strong population growth in Melbourne, as an unprecedented flow of people migrate for work and employment opportunities. 

In fact, in Victoria alone, we’ve seen a massive net interstate migration of 4,849 in the fourth quarter of 2015, the highest figure on record.

Net interstate migration from New South Wales to Queensland has continued to flow, whilst migration away from Western Australian & South Australian increased, as populations continue to seek greener pastures.

The populations of Northern Territory and Tasmania have remained relatively unchanged, with an increase of 800 and 119 respectively.

Piecing it all together, our nations largest cities recorded strongest growth with Victoria leading the way with a net migration of +109,800 and New South Wales +106,100 recorded in the last calendar year. Queensland followed behind with +59,700.

 

Still, New South Wales remains the most heavily populated state at 7,670,000 whilst Victoria inches closer having passed the 6 million mark for the first time in January.
